City Grazing is San Francisco’s one-of-a-kind nonprofit dedicated to improving the Bay Area’s environment and communities with goat grazing.
We offer sustainable land management services — weed removal, fire hazard reduction, soil enhancement, and improved drought tolerance — via renting out our goats to graze on public and private properties throughout the Bay Area.
In addition to grazing services, City Grazing partners with schools, public agencies, and community organizations to educate about the benefits of grazing and inspire urban residents to have a greater connection with their natural environment.
We are also always eager to offer low-to-no-cost consulting for those outside of our service area who are interested in how goat grazing might benefit their land, how it works, who to contact, and all other questions about the specifics of grazing.

City Grazing is the last goat herd living in working in San Francisco. It all started over a decade ago with 10 goats that were headed to auction. All of the current herd of over 100 goats are adopted. They include former dairy goats now enjoying happy retirements as grazing animals, rescue goats desperate to find new homes, and goats that would have otherwise been sold for meat production. When they are not out on the job, our herd lives at our headquarters in San Francisco’s Bayview district.
One of the best ways to learn more about our friendly herd of nature’s lawnmowers is to check them out on one of our social media feeds linked below. We post frequent updates — of them out at job sites, of our adorable baby goats born and raised at our facility, and so much more!
City Grazing is lucky to have a small but mighty team of exceptional folks who help us fulfill our mission. The City Grazing family includes our field crew, staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors.
